A wiki of 50 starters to be used in ICT lessons as they are or adapted to suit your classroom. They are aimed in the first instance at Key Stage 3 but some are equally useful in other key stages.

  • Show that you can search properly through data, organise data and test hypothesis. Only then will you be eligible to apply for CSI Skoolies
  • Amazon Kindle logo

    A cross curricular project in which students write and publish short stories as eBooks for global distribution on the Amazon Kindle store.

    Collaboration with English and Art departments required.


  • museum

    In this unit students will be creating a museum tour that uses ICT to make it more interactive for the visitors. The unit is intended to produce evidence for APP AF1, AF2 and AF3.

  • social media

    This unit focuses on the role that social media has played in the Middle East unrest. The unit is intended to produce evidence for APP AF1, AF2 and AF3.

  • Game Control

    This scheme of work gives an introduction to control and flowcharts then moves on to teaching them how to program their own games in Scratch.

    This project is for you to demonstrate your skills in planning, researching, collecting, analysing and modelling information to prepare yourself to be able to enjoy a life changing adventure.

  • Alice is an innovative 3D programming environment that makes it easy talice logoo create an animation for telling a story, playing an interactive game, or a video to share on the web. It is a teaching tool for introductory computing. Alice uses 3D graphics and a drag-and-drop interface to facilitate a more engaging, less frustrating first programming experience.

    This provides a set of tutorials to create an animation using the software

    With an emphasis on thinking and problem-solving, this is a course that teaches about copyright of images and the Creative Commons licence; searching and using appropriately licensed images; types of graphics; creating images in Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop.

    These skills are then put use to create icons for a real end-user.

    Resources to teach e-safety aimed at Year 7s but could be used with Year 8s. Students produce their own interactive, multimedia posters using Glogster

  • e-Waste project
    Ever wondered what happens to old electronics when they're thrown away? Recycling of electronic waste is becoming a huge issue for third world countries where computers, televisions and other equipment are burnt on open fires to collect the components. Learn about the human cost of e-waste and spread the word through an awareness campaign.

  • Video editing project

    Are you the next Steven Spielberg? Learn about how films are made and work together to write, film and edit your own.

  • gamemaker logo

    As it's name suggests, Gamemaker is software for creation of games. This course provides links to a series of video tutorials to create 2 basic games using that software

  • gsketchup

    Designed for Year 9 students., the course is based on the idea of designing and promoting a new housing estate and is a good way to make use of Google Sketchup as well providing a chance to integrate a broad range of skills in one large project.

    A course that looks at how ICT and technology affects our lives at the moment and looks set to affect it in the future

    Various resources including starter and plenary material that can be used in teaching various ICT topics. These are sorted and labelled by topic and duplicated where they are felt to fit more than one topic

  • This course will cover an introduction to Kodu.

    Kodu

    Kodu is a new visual programming language made specifically for creating games. It is designed to be accessible for children and enjoyable for anyone. The programming environment runs on the Xbox, allowing rapid design iteration using only a game controller for input.

  • Cluedo

    Intended for Year 7, this focusses on a Murder Mystery Database which takes students through data entry,filtering and sorting to using the QBE grid and criteria to solve simple crimes.

  • From September (2010) yr7 & 8 students will be taught together in Phase 1. This our attempt to create and deliver a personalised learning curriculum.

    Students are allocated a level which is linked to a number of points, they must then complete a range of tasks, varying in difficulty, to gain the points they need to meet their level

    Students are also able to assign themselves a personal target above that set by the school

    This topic covers blogging, micro-blogging, sound editing, copyright, podcasting, viral marketing and campaigning.
    Contains 11 lessons.
